Design Trends from Milan: Mix & Match
Senior Research Executive
We felt, after seeing 100s of examples of new and cutting edge design at the Milan Design Festival that the ‘Mix & Match’ trend really stood out amongst the crowd.
Amidst a sea of streamlined, professional products, we spotted some design renegades – flouting the rules with their one-off aesthetic.
Designers are taking inspiration from items in their immediacy, bringing together things that contextually should never be together. From pieces of old furniture, to kitchen sink pipe work, it seems that it is a free for all when it comes to material choices.
These examples infer the aftermath of an explosion. They are shambolic, nonsensical and hard to decode – but ultimately, in their difference, they remind us that we can always make something, from anything.
