Today marks the official start of the London 2012 Olympics…and what better way to celebrate than with an article published in The Guardian about the logo and branding. Indeed, this week we wrote about how our initial reactions to the identity (from way back in 2007) compare with current perceptions of the Wolff Olins’s creation. Forget the air con, what you really need in this weather is a Sprite shower (plus the airfare for Brazil). The soft drinks brand has installed giant Sprite dispensers on one of the most popular beaches in Rio de Janeiro. The rationale behind the showers stems from consumer research highlighting that when the temperature hits 40ºC the only thing matching the refreshment of a cool shower is a sip of Sprite. Ingenious.
Now for some Nordic NPD courstesy of IKEA. No longer restricted to a side of meatballs with your flat pack, the furniture giant has branched into lager. Although we’re not a fan of the (hardly inspiring) packaging, we welcome the alcoholic addition to our sofa shopping.
Finally, we’re lapping up this idea for a commuter badge in London ahead of the games. Ad agency Beattie McGuinness Bungay came up with the concept to help encourage seating chivalry on the tube.
