Glade

We helped Glade move the brand from having a functional offer (masking odours) to being a key player in emerging home care category

How could we help define the optimum product design for a new multi-sensory diffuser…

…Delivering ambiance as well as aroma, and therefore a higher emotional reward for consumers

The Approach

  • Online community in US & FR exploring current U&A for diffuser users and gained inspiration for Glade’s design.  Involved home-tours, how-to videos, creative collages, love/hate letters and ‘my dream diffuser’ design.
  • Design workshops in NYC & Paris, rotating around 4 design areas. Consumers explored ideal features before co-creating ideal prototypes.
  • Paired Depth UX interviews in London & New Jersey using fully functioning prototypes validated Glade diffuser design against the ideal user experience. We evaluated functional performance and refined key features using gamified trade-off exercises

The Impact

  • Iterative refinement phase by phase allowed the final design to be as close to launch as possible.

  • Actionable recommendations provided at final phase led to the design seen on the shelves today.

  • Glade Aromatherapy Cool Mist Diffuser launched in 2022 and is now sold globally.

  • Has been well received so far (winning product of the year in Australia) and firmly cementing Glade as a leader not just in functional door removal space but in the growing home care category.
